THOMAS MORE NAMED A TOP CATHOLIC COLLEGE IN THE NATION

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. (Dec. 20, 2023) — The Catholic Herald, a London-based Roman Catholic monthly magazine, released its “U.S. Catholic Universities and Colleges Guide 2023: Top 25,” with Thomas More University included on the list. Thomas More was the only university in the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati region to be included, with more than 200 Catholic colleges and universities in the U.S. in contention. Criteria used to create the list includes academic excellence, sports, student life, campus size, spiritual formation, and Catholic ethos.

“This recognition demonstrates the dedication of our faculty, the excellence of our academic programs, and the vibrant spirit of our community,” says Thomas More University President Joseph L. Chillo, LP.D. “Thomas More has secured its place as the regional leader in Catholic education as we continue our commitment to providing a transformative education that integrates faith, learning, and service. This acknowledgment reflects not only our rich heritage but also our ongoing commitment to fostering a community where students are not only educated but inspired to lead with purpose and compassion.”

The article references some of Thomas More’s notable historical moments along with recent successes. Under Chillo’s leadership, the University was recognized by the Wall Street Journal/College Pulse in the 2024 Best Colleges rankings at 207 out of the top 400 overall and in the top 10 for small colleges in the South. Also referenced is the extensive geographical expansion and building renovations. Mention is made of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s attendance at the 1968 Crestview Hills campus re-dedication ceremony. The Thomas More Observatory is also alluded to, as well as the most popular majors, well-known alumni, newer initiatives, and Saints sports teams.

Thomas More strives to be the destination in the region for a Catholic liberal arts education. The Catholic identity of the University is expressed by the visibility of Catholic values in all aspects of the life of the university. Mission-driven, The University hopes to inspire students through adherence to the Catholic Intellectual Tradition, challenging students of all faiths to examine the ultimate meaning of life, their place in the world, and their responsibility to others. Cultivating a strong and supportive campus ministry program, being home of the Wm. T. (Bill) Robinson III ’67 Institute for Religious Liberty which encourages interfaith dialogue, and encouraging service learning to the local and international community are just a few hallmarks of a Thomas More education.
