Thomas More College 17th Annual Bishop William A. Hughes Awards

2012 Recipients: James A. Dressman III and Julie Geisen Scheper

Thomas More College will honor James A. Dressman III and Julie Geisen Scheper at the 17th Annual Bishop Hughes Awards Dinner at Drees Pavilion Thurs., Oct., 4, 2012. Both recipients are graduates of Thomas More College and were honored for their involvement in Catholic higher education. The award was named in honor of former chancellor of the college and retired bishop of the Diocese of Covington Bishop William A. Hughes.

Dressman is a 1970 graduate of the Covington Latin School and a 1974 graduate of Thomas More College, earning his B.A. in history. He completed his law degree from the University of Kentucky in 1977.  He began practicing law at Dressman Benzinger LaVelle (DBL Law) immediately following graduation and is currently managing partner and the head of the commercial law and banking practice group. In addition to his involvement with Thomas More College, Dressman is active on many boards and committees throughout Northern Kentucky, including Freestore Foodbank, Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, Northern Kentucky Volunteer Lawyers, Inc., among others.

Geisen Scheper is a lifelong resident of Northern KY and graduate of Notre Dame Academy and Thomas More College where she earned a B.A. in Psychology in 1976. She has had a fulfilling career in the counseling/mental health field working at a variety of organizations including DCCH Center for Children and Families, Brighton Center and nearly 20 years at Catholic Charities. Since her retirement in 2001, she has continued to pursue her passion for education and social justice issues with her volunteer and civic activities, including involvement with Covington Partners, BRIDGES for a Just Community, Mother of God Church Parish Pastoral Council, in addition to many others.
