Thomas More professors Elle Megerle (SOC105) and Kirk Mayhew (ART115) collaborated to create a learning community of students who participated in the Clay Alliance’s 24th Annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser which took place on Nov. 5, 2023, at Arnold’s Bar and Grill in downtown Cincinnati. Empty Bowls is an international movement to involve the pottery community in helping the hungry. In SOC105 the students learned about poverty and the effects the condition has on family life, and in ART115 students created pottery which was donated to use at the Empty Bowls event. Proceeds from the event benefitted Kids Cafe of the Freestore Foodbank which has over 15 locations in greater Cincinnati where children receive a nourishing meal, help with homework and personal hygiene, and participate in fun activities.
