Oct. 25 Shantytown Event to Bring Awareness to Poverty and Homelessness
Thomas More College will host a shantytown event that encourages awareness and understanding about poverty in the area. “One Night Without a Home,” will include educational events and service projects throughout the night, including a special guest speaker, Josh Spring, executive director of the Cincinnati Homeless Coalition. In addition, journal reflection activities, a candle light vigil and a movie about homelessness will take place until 2 a.m., after which participants will spend the night in their cardboard shanties on the Student Center front lawn.
Approximately 50 students and staff at Thomas More College participated in the event coordinated with the College’s Residence Life Department and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion in collaboration with the Greater Cincinnati Homeless Coalition.
