CRESTVIEW HILLS KY, August 12, 2013 – Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, Ky., invites middle and high school teachers to attend a workshop on Creativity in the Classroom: Writing Poetry with Middle to High School Age Writers on Wednesday, September 25, 5:30-8:30. In a collegial, encouraging workshop setting, learn from Richard Hague, a veteran, award-winning teacher and Pauletta Hansel, Thomas More College’s Writer-in-Residence,  how to make poetry writing come alive for middle and high school students. We will explore some general basics of creativity, study successful, classroom-tested prompts, and create our own. We will also discuss how to establish constructive and non-threatening peer response, learn the fundamental mechanics of building student portfolios over a period of time, and survey local, regional and national writing contests your students might enter. Bring your questions and ideas of your own!

Facilitator Richard Hague’s students have won hundreds of poetry awards ranging from recognition in the Nationals Arts Talent Search, to the Lucille Loy Kuck Ohioana and Ohio Dept. of Education’s Poetry Awards. Hague is the renowned author of fourteen collections of poetry. He is the recipient of four Individual Artists Fellowships in Poetry and Creative Nonfiction from the Ohio Arts Council, and was a Scholar at Bread Loaf. He will be assisted by Pauletta Hansel, Thomas More College’s Writer-in-Residence, a poet, teacher and author of four poetry collections. Pauletta received her MFA from Queens University of Charlotte.
