February 1st Observatory Open House

Eyes in the Sky: A History of Space Telescopes
Presented by:
  Dr. Wes Ryle

What:

From the surface of the Earth, the majority of the cosmos is hidden from us.  While our atmosphere fosters and protects life on Earth, it also blocks light and information from the Universe around us.  Many of the great discoveries of the past 50 years are due to a fleet of craft launched into space to serve as remote observatories.  This talk will overview some of the most important spacecraft to date, including the Chandra X-ray Observatory and the Hubble Space Telescope, as well as future missions like the James Webb Space Telescope.

Join us afterward for an up-close look at the stars, Jupiter, and more with telescopes at The Bank of Kentucky Observatory (weather permitting).

This talk is intended for a general audience.  All ages are welcome.  The event is free and open to the public.  Thomas More College faculty and students will assist visitors in using the telescopes at the observatory.
